PAGASA called it Inday.
The Senate called her Inday too.
Nobody warned us about the double-booking.
The typhoon arrived first. Super Typhoon Inday — international name Bavi — won't make direct landfall. It'll just park its enormous self off the coast, wind up the southwest monsoon, and let the habagat flood the cities it didn't need to touch. Schools canceled. Commutes ruined. Class suspension alerts at 5 AM. You know the drill.
The other Inday's trial started Monday. Day 5 today. Ninety-two scheduled days to present charges of malversation, death threats, and $110 million in flagged bank transactions. Ninety-two days — which by Filipino public-interest math means this wraps sometime in October, on a Friday, when everyone's already looking for Undas flights.
Here's the number nobody's reporting together: the government deployed 6,000 police to secure the Senate on opening day. Six thousand. For context, barangay officials across the country have been asking for estero dredging funds for years. The esteros remain undredged. The 6,000 were there on time.
The habagat doesn't care about any of this. It shows up every July. No House vote required. No press release. It just rains and leaves. The flood control projects were supposed to handle exactly this — billions allocated, tenders awarded, inspected, signed. The drainage is still performing at about the same level as the defense counsel's first objection.
Two Indays. One week. Both making walang pasok.
One was in the weather forecast. The other was in the AMLC report.
The streets are underwater. The Senate chamber is also underwater, in its way — with lawyers, cameras, and 92 days of testimony nobody agreed to watch but everyone will comment on. Some cities are flooded. Others are just watching the live feed.
The forecast said Signal No. 1. The Constitution said impeachable. Neither one prepared you for what it actually feels like to live through both in the same week, with a broken umbrella and a group chat that hasn't stopped buzzing since Monday.
We didn't plan for two Indays. This is the Philippines. We got both.
