My Experience
I've been hunting for the right platform to host my courses, and LearnWorlds kept popping up in every "best course platforms" list. So I finally took the plunge. This is Part 1 of a 3-part deep dive - today we're covering first impressions and getting oriented.
What is LearnWorlds?
LearnWorlds positions itself as an "AI-powered LMS built for course creators." It's an all-in-one platform for building, marketing, and selling online courses. They serve over 12,000 customers across 150+ countries, reaching 32 million learners. Those are serious numbers.
The Sign-Up Experience
Getting started was painless - 30-day free trial, no credit card required. I appreciate when platforms let you explore without commitment. The onboarding wizard asked about my goals (selling courses, training employees, etc.) and tailored the initial setup accordingly.
First thing I noticed: there's a LOT here. The dashboard can feel overwhelming at first glance. Multiple menu sections, various settings panels, and features tucked into every corner. This isn't necessarily bad - it means the platform is feature-rich - but be prepared for a learning curve.
Navigating the Interface
The main navigation sits on the left sidebar with sections for: Courses, Users, Marketing, Site Builder, and Settings. Pretty standard LMS layout. What surprised me was finding 50+ designer-made templates for the website builder - these aren't basic templates, they're industry-specific and actually look professional.
One critique: the platform is quite "wordy." There's text everywhere explaining things, which can be helpful but also clutters the interface. I found myself wishing for a more visual, intuitive layout at times. It's not always clear where to click next.
The Course Builder - First Look
This is where LearnWorlds starts to shine. The drag-and-drop course builder is genuinely impressive. You can add multiple content types: videos, ebooks, assessments, certificates, SCORMs, surveys. The variety is excellent for creating diverse learning experiences.
The standout feature? Interactive videos. You can add clickable buttons, images, quiz questions, and gamification elements directly INTO your videos. This transforms passive video watching into actual engagement. I haven't seen this done this well on other platforms.
First Impressions Scorecard
Here's my honest take after the first few hours:
✅ Feature-rich without feeling bloated
✅ Interactive video is genuinely innovative
✅ Professional templates save serious time
✅ AI assistant helps with content creation
⚠️ Steep learning curve initially
⚠️ Interface can feel text-heavy and cluttered
⚠️ Some best features locked to higher pricing tiers
Pricing Reality Check
Quick note on pricing since it affects what you can actually use: Starter is $29/mo (but has $5 transaction fees per sale - ouch), Pro Trainer is $99/mo, Learning Center is $299/mo. The interactive video feature I praised? That's only on Learning Center and above. Something to consider.
What's Next
In Part 2, I'll dig deeper into actually building a course - the workflow, the tools, and whether the AI assistant actually helps or just gets in the way. Part 3 will cover marketing, sales features, and my final verdict.
Initial rating: 4/5 stars - Promising start with impressive features, but needs time to fully evaluate.
