Artist Statement

Sara Duterte announces her 2028 presidential run — while Dad's ICC trial runs alongside her campaign trail. Dynasty speedrun unlocked.

The Dynasty Must Go On

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte announced on February 18, 2026 that she is running for president in 2028 — because apparently, one Duterte at the International Criminal Court is not nearly enough drama for one family. With her father Rodrigo currently on trial for crimes against humanity in The Hague, Sara has decided the appropriate response is to aim for higher office.

In a tearful livestreamed address, she told supporters: 'It took me 47 years to understand that my life was never meant to be only mine.' Filipinos watching from home nodded knowingly, many of them still waiting for their own lives to belong even slightly to themselves amid a cost-of-living crisis.

The Satire Angle

There is something uniquely Filipino about this political moment: a sitting vice president — currently facing multiple impeachment complaints for corruption — announcing a presidential bid while asking for 'forgiveness' from the same electorate she allegedly wronged. The caricature draws itself. Sara stands triumphant on the podium, arms wide, '2028' banner unfurled, while the shadow of prison bars looms theatrically behind her. Philippine politics is not merely drama; it is grand opera performed on a barangay stage.

'I offer my life, my strength, and my future in service of our nation.' — Sara Duterte, presumably drafting her campaign materials in between impeachment hearings.

At Chickenpie, we salute the audacity. In a country where political dynasties are a feature, not a bug, Sara's announcement is less a surprise and more a scheduled event — pencilled into the national calendar alongside typhoon season and rising rice prices. Roll the caricature.
